What is happening with existing VOSA test stations?
VOSA has committed to deliver a transformation in testing provision. This will enable tests to be more closely integrated into vehicle maintenance systems, in order to reduce downtime and therefore save costs.
Around 23 per cent of tests are currently undertaken at private sector designated premises (DPs) and it is now proposed to deliver the vast majority of tests (85 per cent) at private sector operated Authorised Testing Facilities (ATFs) and DPs over the next three years. This change will also enable VOSA to manage the level of fees in the future by maximising the use of alternative privately owned and operated facilities and, where possible, reduce the capacity of VOSA estates. VOSA would continue to conduct all tests including those undertaken at ATFs and DPs.
Why travel long distances to a VOSA site to have your vehicle tested when you could have the test straight after the PMI from the same location?
In the HGV sector, statistics recorded by VOSA reveal an initial MoT failure rate of 32.4 percent in 2008/9, with ‘headlamp aim’ scoring 17.3% as the most common failure defect and 6.2% for lamps. The VOSA statistics reveal that the percentage of failure defects attributed to Service and Secondary Brake Performance was 5.5% and 4.4% respectively among HGV motor vehicles.
